The Margaret River is well known for its maritime climate with a long, cool ripening season. A pristine environment where sea breezes caress vines grown in gravelly loam soils, producing wines of great character.
Planting at Beckett’s Flat began in 1992 to a total of 34 acres (13.6 ha) under vine. The varieties planted are those that have been proven in the Margaret River: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, with smaller plantings of Semillon, Verdelho and Merlot.
The trellising is VSP (Vertical Shoot Positioning) with the vines being hand-pruned from July to September. The vineyard is managed using largely organic practices.
Harvesting commences in late February to early March and generally lasts for four to six weeks, with each variety being picked at is optimum for both taste and sugar/acid ratios.
Great wine requires good grapes and the vineyard is managed with this in mind.
Beckett’s Flat wines are produced using only grapes grown on the vineyard estate.
Following early wine show success both in Australia and overseas, our current focus is to produce food-friendly wines, which are ready to drink now. Wines produced are elegant and fruit-driven. Chardonnay and red wines are enhanced with the use of premium quality oak, with careful emphasis on producing well-balanced wines. All wines are now bottled under our Five Stones label with all fining agents certified free from animal origin, so the entire range is vegan friendly.
Our philosophy is to produce the very best wine possible from each vintage.
